Cats getting caught doing crimes
it takes quite a bit of social intelligence for a creature to understand:
- I know what I am doing is wrong
- I know there is an activity that looks similar that is not wrong
- If I am quick I can plausibly pass one off as the other
these cats are displaying remarkable theory of mind skills by not only registering that the humans can perceive them but actively trying to manipulate that perception! that requires one to be aware that other individuals have complicated interior thoughts of their own, to know that those thoughts are not always based on truth, and to quickly decide on the best possible “lie” for the situation. this is why I despise animal intelligence tasks based on obedience— some of the most clever moments stem from intelligent disobedience.

-Magical Realism AU. In the first movie, it’s explained that The Eye are keepers of real magic. So, in the months spent hiding out before the second movie, the Horsemen are learning some actual magic from Dylan. (A good example is how Jack was able to disappear with a rain of cards or Dylan dropping into the ground and leaving just his clothes behind. It also explains why Lula isn’t able to do this during her show, as this mission was her own initiation into The Eye.)
-D&D AU. The Horsemen is the name of their adventuring party. Dylan is the DM. Atlas plays a Bard (College of Glamour). Jack is a Rogue (Arcane Trickster). Merritt plays a Sorcerer (Aberrant Mind). Henley is a Wizard (School of Illusion). And, after they’ve been playing for a bit, a newbie joins the table in the form of Lula playing a Warlock (Archfey).
One can always wish these into being, right?
